Just trying to figure out what I might have done wrong. Pro-Flo 4 on a 331 Ford. E-303 cam (which changes firing order to 351 or FE order). Trying to run it on an engine run stand. Everything seems to be hooked up well. Running an Edelbrock sump pump. On initial start attempt after turning everything on it fires quickly but only runs for a fraction of a second. After that it will have an occasional cylinder fire but will not run. I would like to get it running long enough to set base timing but cannot. O2 sensor is placed right after the header collector and there is > 24" of pipe after it. No mufflers. Will the system run without mufflers or do they need to be in place? Any thoughts or help is appreciated, thank you very much!

Did you plug in all the sensors?"Do you know how whipped an engine has to be to blow that loud?"....Bug from the movie Uncle Buck

What sparkplugs are you using?
Is the ECU far away from the ignition wires?"Do you know how whipped an engine has to be to blow that loud?"....Bug from the movie Uncle Buck

What engine?
Vehicle make & model?
What Base MAP # is it on?
Fuel pressure ?
Hot engine idle vacuum?
Injector size ?
HP level ?
Spark control settings ?
How many miles on PF4?
Take cell video of Digital Display screen during event.
Don't get too caught up in the numbers.
Just give the Engine what it wants &
Let the numbers be what they are.

Autolite 3924's, the engine is on a run stand so the ECU is as far away as I can get it, behind the engine on the bell housing. I may have figured out the problem, I'll test later today and report back on this thread.

1. It is a small block Ford, originally a 302, is stroked to 331 ci running an E303 cam that changes the firing order to an FE or 351 firing order (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8)
2. Engine is going in to a 1956 F100
3. Base Map 5009-v65
4. Fuel Pressure is 58 psi (we are using an Edelbrock sump pump)
5. Unable to measure hot engine idle as this is the initial start up on this build
6. Injector size 29lb/hr
7. We are estimating 420hp
8. Do not know spark control settings as we have yet to get the engine started and running
9. 0 miles, this is the initial start on the build, engine is on a run stand
10. Will post a video of engine shortly
Thank you for your help.Last edited by Sangerboy; 05-31-2023, 08:29 PM.Comment

OK time to follow up, I got the engine started and running today, here is what I thought of last night and this morning and implemented today. Being that the engine is on a run stand, there are no accessories attached and thus no alternator. I'm sure the system wasn't getting enough voltage to operate correctly even though I was using a strong, deep cycle marine battery in good shape. Upon checking the digital gauge panel the voltage read below 10.5 volts at times while cranking. Solution- I ran a wire from my dually's alternator to the + terminal of the starting battery and connected the - terminal of the starting battery to the - terminal of one of the dually's batteries. While the dually was running this gave me a steady 13.9 volts at the starting (run stand) battery. Secondly I think the distributor was retarded just a bit too much. After I got it started and running I advanced the distributor and the engine picked up and sounded much better. I also moved the idle stop screw in about 3/4 more of a turn in addition to the 1 turn that was recommended in the installation instructions for the cam I was running. Lastly since this was a brand new system I think there may have been some air in the fuel system that had to be purged as the more the starter turned it over it kept gradually improving until it finally started running on its own. Not sure on that last one but that's what it seemed like. Here's a short video clip of it running.
Tomorrow I'll set the base timing to 12 degrees BTDC
So now my question is Is it possible to go straight to the lockout timing step without having to go through setup wizard again and reenter all the information? Or can I lock out the timing to set it to 12 degrees without going through set up wizard? Thanks again for any help anyone can give.Comment

With motor running, connected to the App.
Home Screen
Advanced Tuning
Base Timing.......just follow the instructions.
You only have to do this once...... every time you remove the distributor, you will have to do it again.
