The plan is I am putting a 2005 5.3L / 4l60 into my '55 chevy panel truck street rod project. I am planning on using the edelbrock intake manifold (p/n 7118 ) --- stock cam , stock heads . I am not looking for crazy power just enough to get the heavy old girl down the road at a better than average pace
I guess the couple questions I have , for the moment , are these : what would be my best carb choice what kind of power can I expect from this setup do I need to change the fuel pump ? are there any addtional reccomended parts to go with the setup using the 4l60 trans ? has anyone done this conversion and have any words of wisdom Thanks in advance for the help mike |

I don't know that much about your cam, so for example our 220°/224° cam on a 5.7l makes 450HP but has 12" of vacuum at idle. Sticking to the stock cam, which I'm guessing will be around 200° should probably cut off 60-70 HP but the engine will be glass smooth. With that and the drop to a 5.3l I'd estimate 350-365HP.
Carb choice would be an Edelbrock Thunder Series 650 PN 1806, or an EPS series PN 1406. Both come with electric chokes. You'll need a low pressure (carbureted) electric fuel pump. We have a cool looking PN 1491 rated up to 600 HP which should work if you have a 5"x5"x 2.5" space for it. If your transmission is electronically controlled you'd need a controller for it. Hughes Perfomance can help you out. You could also use a turbo 350 or 200 with the parts in the kit. |

Compushift also makes a good stand alone transmission controller. We use one in one of our test cars that has a 4L60E. They aren't cheap though...around $1,200 last time I looked.
