when I have high air temp readings(*140+) it seems to lean out my AFR.
The car will start to miss and buck.
The AFR richens up when it is cold outside. I'm using a Innovate wideband to monitor the AFR. I moved the air temp sensor to the air cleaner base plate and it helped a little. I have a cowl induction hood with an open air filter.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like it is being affected by radiated heat off the engine. Have you considered lengthening the harness and relocating it to somewhere in the fenderwell area (to isolate it from the engine/radiator heat)? Ideally the sensor should be mounted in the airstream somewhere but sometimes that is just not practical with older engines/vehicles that have high underhood temps. We run them remote mounted all the time here with no problems. It's OK if it just reads ambient temperature. It's better than reading a false high temp.

I have noticed this as well that the sensor is conducting heat from the manifold and not reading the true air temp into the engine. I have a completely sealed cowl induction system. So if I am understanding you correctly I can relocate the MAT sensor to get a more accurate reading.

One remaining question is that I don't understand the relationship between reading higher air temps and the fuel that will be supplied to the engine. I think I am reading that as the air temps increase the system leans out the AFR mixture, correct?
