View Full Version : IS EFI right for me?

I have a 1987 moter home it has a BB chevy 454 I need to replace the fuel system on it so now would be the right time to change to EFI but is it right for the application. I want to get the best fuel economy I can get but as you can figure out it will need to be able to pull a big camper in the mountains and sometimes a trailer. also what system would be right for me? Thanks

Your engine is carbureted? In 1987 GM started switching over to throttle body injection. Are you sure that's not what you have?
In any case, we're sorry but Edelbrock does not make a replacement EFI system for your engine.

I just can't believe you have no kits for a BB Chevy. But hey thats OK I'm sure some one else would like to take my cash. It is funny though at the web store their are listing for BB Chevy's up to and including the 502 so I must have seen something wrong. My mistake.

Sorry but You didn't answer my question. Is your engine carbureted or throttle body injected right now?

Right now it has a holly carbator but I would like to make it fuel injected.

In 1987 GM started switching over to throttle body injection (TBI). RV's may have lagged behind though. Was it factory carbureted? It's not that we don't have big block Chevy EFI kits. The question is fitment of the manifold to your heads. Your engine being from 1987 may have the peanut ports (TBI manifold= 1.41”w x 1.59”t) and our XT and Pro-Flo 2 use (1.65”w x 1.90”t) ports.

yes it was carburated rom the factory. I guess I would need to pull the intake manifold and measure the ports. If they are small ones could I change the heads?

Of course. Please keep in mind as well that the Pro Flo system is not emissions legal. I don't know what the requirements are for your vehicle.
